WWB does not offer test prep, but I have been long-time colleagues and collaborators with Corey Miller over at Tete-a-Tete. I highly recommend…and am in fact secretly envious of Corey’s power combo of affability and brains!

A writing tutor typically supports students on academic assignments, with a goal of short-term success. After years of offering writing tutoring, I found that the best, most effective tutoring was more all-encompassing. It included not just writing knowledge, but also a positive, supportive rapport and strategies the student can take with them beyond the assignment itself.
As a writing coach, not tutor, I focus on helping students build the hard and soft skills they’ll use for the rest of their lives—from tackling daunting essay prompts with what I call “mini-prompts,” to a Messy First Draft model of writing, and more.
I model humor, kindness, and fortitude in the often vulnerable process that is putting our ideas and selves into words on paper!
Above all, I support students in accessing their VOICE and CREATIVITY.
Writing coaching is not only more interesting for me than your typical writing tutoring, but far more powerful for the student. I firmly believe that authentic self-expression can help heal our world.

WWB typically offers online writing coaching (as I like to say: it’s like writing tutoring…but better!) for children, teens, and now adults.
While classroom teaching seems, to be honest, fairly nightmarish (or at least very difficult) on the online platform, I’ve found the experience of 1-1 coaching online very easy and meaningful. Students and I still build an easy rapport, and feel connected. 99% of the students I have worked with do very, very well with online writing sessions.
All that said, in-person support is sometimes available in lower-midtown Manhattan and the Park Slope/South Slope area depending on mutual availability and the time of year! When it works out for both parties in terms of timing and location, I am happy to accommodate in-person work.

Pricing varies slightly depending on the program. Once you book a free consultation, we’ll send you a rate sheet with specifics, and you can see what’s right for your budget!

One way to access 1-1 support—especially on college application essays and NYC admissions essays—is to put me in touch with a school counselor, teacher, and/or admissions advisor. I’d be happy to partner with a school or teacher to offer in-school or after-school group lessons, an online talk, or a series of group lessons to support students undergoing the application process. (If you aren’t sure how this might work, feel free to reach out anyway!)
Please also subscribe to the newsletter, where I announce frequent partnerships with the Parents League of New York to offer affordable or free talks and workshops.

I’m not trained to offer reading comprehension support, so I definitely recommend finding a trained teacher, tutor, or coach for this particular challenge.
However, stronger reading comprehension skills are a byproduct of WWB programs, which often use outside texts to build critical thinking and writing skills.

There is no standard formula or template for unique, stand-out admissions essays for colleges or NYC high schools. However, I do use a messy first draft model of writing, which lets the students brainstorm, write, and revise powerful essays that are entirely in their own voice.
Why is student voice so important? It’s what creates a unique essay, in part. Moreover, accessing and expressing our voice is a critical skill at any age, in personal, academic, and professional contexts. Finally, the process of brainstorming, writing, and revising writing teaches students not only powerful strategies for approaching various forms of writing, but also organizational and grammar skills along the way!

Yes! Many students stick with me for years, which is incredibly delightful. The best way to get on my ongoing roster is by participating in a program (if you’re looking for something flexible, with a combination of lessons and academic support, check out Just for the Student on our coaching page).

I sometimes offer workshops or classes with the Parents League of New York and hope to begin offering more independently, as well. I also host Creativity Club, a free weekly creative writing club for kids 9-13.
Occasionally I partner with Writing Workshops and offer talks and workshops on writing for adults.
